: Hi Henna pro's <G>...I have recently returned to the henna fold- I
: have used "Grocery Store" boxes twice in the past 3 months, with
: decent success. First time with plain water (as per the box
: instructions), the second time (THANK YOU!) with lemon and
espresso.
: My dark brown hair has a definite red tint, especially in the sun,
: but my single grey (ok, WHITE) strands look like orange soda. I
dont
: have a lot of the grey/white, but it buggs me. I would love to even
: them out more. OK, so I have ordered 2 batches from Catherine, and
: they are tempting me as we speak. My questions....is it too soon to
: re henna (last time was 2 weeks ago) and is there something I can
: add to my mix to deepen those lighter strands (or will that happen
: with repeat hennas) - or to help the henna "stick" more to the
light
: bits? I suspect this is a case of keep doing 'til you have the
: results you want, but I wanted to ask if I was missing something.
:
: I have to add that I am somewhat relieved that there are other folk
: out there that are hooked on this stuff - what is it about the
: combination of experience and results (yep, I like the smell too!)
: that makes you want to mix another batch <VBG>?....

Hi Kirsten,
My greys are a problem too. The ones that have been dyed several
times are a bright orange; newer ones are a very unattractive yellow.
Unfortunately as new ones keep cropping up all the time, there
doesn't seem a way around this! The bottom line seems to be that good
coverage of greys is difficult with henna.
At the moment its not really a problem for me as overall I have far
less than 10% grey. The orange strands blend in with the fiery red
rest. But I can see it becoming more a problem in the future.

Some people on the mixes page share their experiences with covering
greys and its worth a look. The bottom line seems to be: fresh good
quality henna; plenty of time on the hair; repeated applications.

The good thing is you can do it as often as you have time for and can
afford. I just did my hair 2 days ago and still enjoying that thick
full feeling I love it! But I also I think Alison's idea is good --
if you're lucky enough to have your greys concentrated in one area,
try reapplying to the greys only at least in between overall hennas.
It might give the greys a chance to "catch up" with the other hair.

Oh and last but not least, yeah, its definitely addictive! I've never
used chemical hair colours, so I don't know if people get the same
buzz from doing their hair that way, but I have just decided that I'm
going to have to order only as much henna as I need when I need it;
when I have it on hand I tend to mess around with mixes and redo my
hair more than I need too! Does get expensive that way...
