indigo and oils?

I just put indigo in my friend's hair and it was MUCH harder than
henna. The paste was like sand and water, very hard to get in the
hair, and very drippy once it was on. I was wondering if anyone has
found a way to make the paste easier to use, I was thinking about
adding something like olive oil to make the paste little smoother, but
I wasn't sure how that would affect the dye. If no one has any ideas
I might experiment and see what happens. My friend's a good guinea
pig, so if I ruin his hair, he'll forgive me.
