: J's due to be hennaed soon. Naturally dark dirty blonde hair, last
: dyed copper a couple of months ago, currently faded to strawberry
: blonde. She wants copper, and she wants it to stay copper. So I'm
: rather concerned that it will get darker with repeated hennas. Any
: thoughts?
:

Mine never has darkened from the original (oxidized) stain. It
always starts bright and then deepens within a few days, and it's
been the same colour until I started bleaching out parts, too.

: We did the strand test (henna, lemon juice and water) for three
hours
: and it turned out bright copper, to her delight. I've not seen her
: since, but she said it's faded quite a bit and she prefers the
: original colour. However, I've heard that the actual henna often
ends
: up brighter/stronger than the strand test. Her hair is about
brastrap
: length and I reckon she'll take an hour to henna, so how long do you
: reckon we should leave it on for? I was thinking three hours from
the
: finish, which would be four from the start (starting from the
bottom).
:

Sounds good.

: Also, how much should we use? K's chin-length hair took about
: 120-150g henna plus cloves at a ratio of 1:6 (rough estimate based
on
: how much is left over), and her hair isn't hugely thick. J's is
: probably a bit thinner, and is currently bra-strap length, layered,
: about to have it trimmed. No cloves wanted for this one.
:
: My freezer currently contains 2 unopened packets of henna, half a
: packet of the henna I've been using for months for strand tests
: (didn't freeze it for a while, but it still seems to be working
fine)
: and the leftover mixed-up henna from K, 50g or so. K's blend
includes
: cloves and sage tea to make it darker, but I imagine that by the
time
: it's mixed in with all the rest it would make little difference. Or
: should we just go and buy another packet of henna and do it all
: together from scratch? It's cheap, after all. 300g? 400g? 350g?
: We added liquid at a ratio of 400ml to 100g henna plus 15g cloves
for K.
:
: If we end up with henna stains on her skin (though K miraculously
: escaped these), how long do they usually last for? She works in a
: supermarket three days a week and doesn't really want orange skin
at work.

They'll be gone within 36 hours, latest. Scrub well with face wash
of choice around the hairline, and be careful how you part the hair
for a day or two, and you're good.
