I did up myself and my daughter with coconut oil a week before I
first heard about that... I do know, though, that tea tree does help
repel lice, lavender works almost as well and smells better, and if
you are of the mindset to oil your hair - keeps it glossy and strong -
then the dodecyl alcohol in coconut oil will help both repel and
kill.

Sodium lauryl/laurel sulfate, which is a lathering agent in shampoos,
is derived from coconut oil. There's talk circulating in some places
that using a SLS shampoo daily will act as a preventative to future
infestations, but I don't think there's anything in that.

'Sides, isn't a good henna worthy of an occasional oiling anyway? :)

: As far as I know, it smothers them. I have heard you can do this
: with olive oil and a bag over your head - they suffocate and die
and
: you comb them out. I am sure the tea tree oil in the mix helps,
too.
: To keep lice from re-infesting, I have read you put some tea tree
eo
: in your shampoo/conditioner, so your scalp is always repellant to
: lice.

: : How does it work? Does it make hair so smooth that nits can't
: stick? Does the mix
: : suffocate them? Or is it poisonous?
