Weird Henna Powder

Hi everyone,
I've been successfully using henna for about a year. Recently,
henna has been difficult to get at local my food co-op. The company
they order it from is out of stock.

Anyway, I bought some from a seller on ebay. I got the package
yesterday and put my brew together like I always do. The henna came
in 100g increments in plastic that was heat sealed (not sure if that
is the right term) so it hadn't been opened.

After adding my vinegar the brew had a grainy texture. After it
had 'brewed' overnight, the texture was still grainy and much of it
fell off my head and literally looked like goose turds. The henna I
usually get makes a nice smooth paste and I just glop it on and it
pretty much stays there. I think the next time I brew up this
grainy stuff I use Fia's gel recipe.

I just wondered if anyone had experienced this. I don't know the
brand name of the henna I bought. My hair is dry and looks shiny
but doesn't have much, if any, color change. In fact my scalp is
just slightly yellow instead of orange like it is usually is after I
henna.

Oh yeah, I didn't deviate from my normal time routine for dye
release or additives except I did leave it on longer
