You'll want to experiment even more ... I have brown hair with a fair amount of gray.
When I hennaed it I expected to see just a reddish cast ... was I surpised when all the
gray, and the lighter ends (faded from past dyes) turned a bright copper! The first
time I used henna, walnut powder, and mixed in coffee for a browner color - but it
was still more orange-copper than brown. I just did it a 2nd time with a little indigo
and beet root mixed in, but I think the results are still closer to orange/copper than
brown-burgundy. If your natural color is brown and lighter than you've dyed it (you
said your roots are growing out lighter) you want to be sure it won't be more red than
you want! :-)

: Thanks! I better try a strand test...first I have to find the henna!
: Lol. I want to do brown...I naturally have deep brown hair, I dyed
: it red, but I don't want the red anymore. I just want to grow it out
: naturally and use the henna to help condition my hair and ease the
: growing out process...What I mean is that, when I grow my hair out
: my roots will be lighter than my natural hair- so I thought I could
: henna it reguarly to help it grow out and get back to my real color.
: Plus, henna- instead of commerical hair dye- is much gentler on the
: hair from what I understand....
: Am I crazy here?
