A Question of Terps!

Ok..
I'm going to henna my hair on Sunday, come hell or high water ;op
On my test strands, I've been using tea tree EO as a terp..
My question is, how long before you apply the henna mixture to your
hair, is it best to add the terp?
I've been adding tea tree EO to my mix, the night before I do the
test strand.. so about 12 hours before I put it on my hair.
Has anyone got any good advice on how long the terp should be in the
mix, before you slather it all on your head??
