Indigo and skin

I am curious to know why indigo isn't used for body art as henna is?
i know indigo stains faster and darker than henna when used on hair,
so why is it not used to make designs on the skin? is it considered
unsafe or does it not last on skin as well as henna? maybe indigo is
used, and i don't know about it. any input would be greatly
appreciate, thanks!
