I used Daniel Field once, remembered them as being vegan, cruelty-free
and very proud of being natural, and dropped them an e-mail when a
friend was looking for a PPD-free hair dye. Nope, they have PPD as
well. They were very nice and sent me an ingredients list, though, so
at least they're making an effort. They said that pretty much all the
chemical colours out there contain PPD.

Logona, alas, are stopping trading in the UK.

What colour is your hair at the moment, and will you mind if it is
generally brown but has a reddish tinge?

World's End don't animal test either. I think they stock two brands,
both of which cover different colours. I'm wary of Henne Color's
colours, it contains all sorts of weird chemicals. The other brand,
can't remember its name but my local HFS stock it with a World's End
sticker on the back, don't seem to use anything other than nice herbs.
I just used a packet of their "blonde" for deep conditioning (my
hair's brown with golden light), together with a couple of packets of
Henne Color's Quinquina (neutral conditioning treatment) and it worked
like a charm.
