i would definitely do a test from harvested hairs from your brush.

http://www.hennaforhair.com/samples/ . henna if combined with
certain hair dyes that contain metallic salts, i believe, can turn
your hair an unplesant green or make it fall or break off or
something. anyway, read her site, there's informative stuff that can
help you. my mom has been using chemical dyes for years to cover her
grey and recently started hennaing and then indigoing over the henna
to get a nice dark brown/black color. best of luck to you!
