: Thanks for your replies! Its great to hear from users of henna.
: Its just that the hairdressers I know really feel Henna is a bad
word
: and once they know that I have hennaed my hair they will refuse to
: colour it again.
: But Kirsten I was wondering how much indigo henna to mix? Its also
: called Black henna is it not?
: So the process as I understand it is to first put red henna and
then
: the black after washing out the red?

Hi Sabine, no problem at all. i am so glad more people are
discovering henna and indigo. i personally have never dyed
grey/white hair using the one step process of mixing indigo with
henna. i have read elsewhere that if you prefer the one step
process, the mix should be about 40% indigo and 60% henna. i
regularly dye my mom's hair with the 2 step process and she gets
really great coverage. i first mix about 100 grams of henna with
lemon juice to a yogurt like consistency for her hair (it's above her
shoulder but her hair is rather thick). i try to let the dye sit on
my stove with the fire off for 1-2 days for better dye release. i
then slather that on her head and cover it up with plastic wrap for 4-
6 hours. while the henna is rinsed out and her hair is drying, i mix
the indigo (about 120 grams) with water and then apply it to her hair
once it has dried for about an hour. her whites and greys are
completely covered when the indigo is rinsed out. this is a nice
process. i do want to try the one step process and once i do, i will
post the results. yes, indigo is called black henna, but so are
other harmful substances. for more info, check out catherine's site
on black henna http://www.hennaforhair.com/indigo/ i think it's
great if your hair dresser refuses to color your hair---better for
your health and hair! i hope this helps, for more information on
more methods and different mixes, take a look at catherine's mixes
page. my mom's hair along with mine is listed and there will be more
helpful information there http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/
catherine is running such a great site, i really love it, i wish you
well in your hennaing!

Kristen
