How long to store unused henna powder?

Hi everyone,
We know we want fresh henna powder, but how long is it okay to store
it? I ordered too much to do my hair, and wonder if keeping the
leftover powder in the fridge for a month or so would be okay.
OR...do you think its better to mix it and then freeze the paste?

Don't want to waste, but also live in fear of dreadful orange stale
henna colour! lol.

Also: anybody recommend another strand test before rehennaing? Or do
the results stay pretty consistent each time provided the powder is
fresh?
