: Hey everybody...
:
: I wanted to make a gelled indigo-henna mix by steeping the indigo
in
: an slightly alkaline baking soda-water mixture and separately
: steeping the henna in an acidic blueberry juice mixture...then I
was
: going to bring the henna-blueberry juice to a boil again after dye
: release and add the pectin...and mix them together for a smooth
gel..
:
: My question is whether adding the slightly basic indigo/baking
soda
: water mixture to the acidic henna/blueberry juice mixture will
cause
: some kind of bad chemical reaction in the gel form
:
: Baking soda is only mildly basic with a PH of about 8...Water is 7.
:
: thanks for any help

Kelli,

Having had to take several chemistry courses for my major I can 99%
positively tell you that mixing them will have no bad result. The
only way I could possibly see a bad result would be if the
blueberries reacted badly with the baking soda, but that's doubtful.
