fading red?

My hair is naturally dark blonde (dishwater and dirty blonde are such
rude terms). I've just started hennaing with Light Mountain.
After a little while the color seems to fade a bit. It's still
definitely red, but not as vibrate as those few days right after
dying.
Is this normal? Is this because I'm using a boxed dye that's thinned
out with those gritty green flecks? Should I just expect to be
retouching every now and then or would a higher quality henna (like
my "free" sample) do the trick as permanent?
